Hornish to Start 33rd at Kansas Speedway on Sunday

October 2, 2009

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (October 2, 2009) - Sam Hornish Jr., driver of the Penske Racing No. 77 AAA Dodge Charger, will start the Price Chopper 400 at Kansas Speedway from the 33rd starting position on Sunday afternoon.

Although Hornish has just one start at Kansas Speedway in Cup Series competition, he is no stranger to racing at the 1.5-mile tri-oval. In seven IndyCar Series starts at the speedway, Hornish produced three top-three and five top-10 finishes, to go along with one victory.

The 16th competitor to make a qualifying attempt, Hornish posted a fast-lap time of 31.269 seconds at a speed of 172.695 miles per hour. The effort secured the 33rd starting position for the No. 77 team.

"We were pretty good in qualifying trim during practice but the AAA Dodge was tight in turns three and four,” said Hornish. “It really just depended on timing today between where you went on the track and what the winds were doing at the time. We’ll move forward this weekend and focus on learning what the AAA Dodge needs to run strong on Sunday.”

Coverage of the Price Chopper 400 at Kansas Speedway will air live on the ABC television network on Sunday, October 4 beginning at 1 p.m. EDT and will also be broadcast live on MRN Radio at 1:15 p.m. EDT.
