THE RACE REVIEW
The No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Fusion
· Qualifying for the Camping World RV Sales 500 was rained out on Saturday. That meant Joey Logano and the no. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Fusion started 18th based off of practice speeds on Friday.
· Typical of restrictor plate racing, Logano and the team was shuffled up and down the running order all afternoon long. Logano fell to 22nd after just a couple of laps, but he raced his way to the top three by lap 12 and into the lead by lap 17.
· Early on, the Shell-Pennzoil Ford ran strong and Logano proved it by running the high line on the track. Logano paced the field for seven laps early and became a fixture in the top five.
· The Shell-Pennzoil Ford was solid all day. Crew chief Todd Gordon made minimal adjustments during pit stops all day long. Each time Logano came into the pits, no matter where he restarted or where he blended in with traffic, he was able to race back into the top 10.
· During the next-to-last pit stop, the No. 22 car was hit in the right rear coming to pit road, which slightly bowed out the rear quarter panel. After that, Logano reported that the car just seemed slower in the draft.
· Logano tried to make several moves over the final few laps, but he couldn't get anyone to go with him as drafting partners. He eventually finished 16th as the race ended under caution.
· The result dropped Logano one spot in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings. He now sits 12th with just four races remaining in the Chase.

“That was a lot more conservative race than I think anyone ever thought. We all were racing pretty hard too. There were a few times when it looked like there was going to be a big crash and there never was. In the end though nobody wanted to go. I was back there trying to make a move to go forward again but once they all went single file up against the wall you are out of luck back there. You try to do anything you can to move up and there were a few guys back there that wanted to go but the bottom lane doesn’t work because of these big shark fins on the side that doesn’t let any air on the spoiler so it hurts the bottom lane so much. You aren’t able to slow down the guy on the top because the fin blocks the air on the spoiler and you can’t slow them down. That is why the bottom lane doesn’t work and it is never going to work until that gets changed.”
