Brad Keselowski and the No. 2 Miller Lite Ford Fusion team started the Daytona 500 from the 37th position after finishing 19th in Thursday night’s Dual 150-mile qualifying race. As the 200-lap event began, Keselowski made steady progress through the field and found himself in the top-15 by lap 20. Over the course of the afternoon, the Miller Lite Ford Fusion was able to slice its way through the field and ran as high as fourth and as low as 36th as pit strategy and cars shuffled, typical to a superspeedway event.  At lap 154, Keselowski was running fourth and appeared well positioned to be in contention for the end of the race. However, on lap 160 Keselowski radioed in that engine was letting go and smoke entered the car. He was able to roll back to the garage where it was determined the engine suffered a terminal failure. The early end to the day resulted in Keselowski being scored 41st.

“No indication the engine was letting go.  It just broke, but when it broke I knew it broke because it was pretty big, which is a shame for the Miller Lite Ford Fusion.  It is what it is.  We had a good car.  We were in position in the top five and just kind of counting down some laps and getting ready for a crazy finish, and just wanted to be there for it.  But unfortunately, that’s not gonna happen.”
