Recap: Will Power and the No. 12 Verizon Chevrolet team captured their second Verizon P1 Pole Award of the season on Saturday in Verizon IndyCar Series qualifying at Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds, Alabama, for the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama. It's Power's fourth pole in eight attempts at Barber, and the 46th of his career which ranks fifth on the all-time series list. Team Penske has won seven of the eight all-time poles at Barber dating back to 2010. Additionally, Team Penske has won all three INDYCAR pole awards this season and 15 of 19 dating back to last season. Helio Castroneves narrowly missed out on his second consecutive pole win and his No. 3 AAA Chevrolet will roll off second on Sunday. Defending Barber race winning Simon Pagenaud and his No. 1 Menards Chevrolet will start from the third position. The 1-2-3 start is the best for the team since starting 1-2-3-4 in last season's finale at Sonoma Raceway. Josef Newgarden took a tire strategy gamble in qualifying and just missed making the final round. His No. 12 Fitzgerald Glider Kits Chevy will line up in the seventh position on Sunday. Team Penske scored pole wins in both the Verizon IndyCar Series and Virgin Australia Supercars Championship with Scott McLaughlin taking the honors for Saturday's Phillip Island event.
