Team Penske New Year's Resolutions

December 28, 2020

"Penske Material" provides an inside look at some of the personalities, stories and moments that make Team Penske so unique.

A new year always provides new opportunities and challenges. Following a season full of unexpected obstacles that brought rewarding achievement for Team Penske in 2020, everyone is ready to turn the page on the calendar and look ahead to a new year. We checked in with some of the team’s drivers, executives, associates and pit crew members to see what their goals and aspirations are for the coming year.

Team Penske is ready for all that 2021 has to offer and whether it’s in racing, at work or at home, some of our teammates share their resolutions for the upcoming New Year:

Josef NewgardenDriver of the No. 2 Hitachi Dallara/Chevrolet: “I’d say my New Year’s resolution for 2021 is pretty easy. I really want to win the Indy 500. We’ve had a lot of success as the No. 2 team over the years and winning the Indianapolis 500 is our biggest goal.”

Will Power – Driver of the No. 12 Verizon Dallara/Chevrolet: “My New Year’s resolution is to have a strong first half of the season and continue how I’ve finished the last few seasons.”

Travis LawNo. 2 Hitachi Dallara/Chevrolet Car Chief: “Taking my dog on more walks.”

Ron RuzewskiINDYCAR Managing Director: "To bring my best every day just as our motto states – Effort Equals Results,  and provide our groups with direction and leadership to allow them to do what they are good at - being the best!  Bring it on 2021, we're ready."

Simon PagenaudDriver of the No. 22 Menards Dallara/Chevrolet: “It’s not really a New Year’s resolution, but I want to be a superhero. Maybe that’s to a fan or just performing at the top of my game – I want to do great things in 2021.”

Ben BretzmanNo. 22 Menards Dallara/Chevrolet Race Engineer: “My 2021 New Year’s resolution is to make sure to live life to the max. Every day since 2020 wasn’t easy. Also, eat more French food like Coq au vin to strengthen my connection to a certain French driver.”

Scott McLaughlinDriver of the No. 3 Dallara/Chevrolet: “I think for me my biggest New Year’s resolution for 2021 is to get even more comfortable in an Indy car. It was really great to do some testing and race at St. Pete this year, so I just really want to build on that and learn as much as I can.”

Joey Logano – Driver of the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Mustang: “I don’t usually make a New Year’s resolution. My hope for everyone is that we’ll go into 2021 with a renewed sense of unity having gone through the struggles of 2020. I’d like to challenge everyone to take inventory of their time and talents and see where they can focus them to help their community and those around them struggling. Often times we think of giving as a financial donation, and that’s great if you’re in a position to do that. But for a lot of people, the gift of their time and talents stretch farther than money. Choose love and compassion and help those around you who are struggling in 2021. Rising tides raise all ships.”

Matt DiBenedettoDriver of the No. 21 Wood Brothers Ford Mustang: “I actually don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions... I believe that if something needs changing that there is no better time than the present.”

Travis GeislerNASCAR Competition Director: “I want to stay in better communication with people regardless of the situation. This year has brought about many challenges but with all of the technology available, there are plenty of ways to stay in touch and collaborate!”

As we’ve all witnessed in 2020, we are capable of adapting and adjusting to meet the challenges and changes that life brings. We hope you are able to reach your goals for 2021, but no matter the resolution for the New Year, we remain focused on a safe and healthy year ahead for all of our team members, partners and fans. Happy New Year from everyone at Team Penske!
