Team Penske continues to look back at the exciting 2023 season with an overview of each team's performance and highlights. In this week's spotlight, we focus on the Porsche Penske Motorsport sports car teams that completed their debut seasons in both the World Endurance Championship and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2023.

After more than 39,000 miles of racing competition, Porsche Penske Motorsport (PPM) officially took the checkered flag on its first full season of global competition in 2023. The new GTP/Hypercar formula ushered in a new era of unified sports car racing which brought increased manufacturer and global interest. 

PPM's IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship effort in 2023 included trips to Victory Lane for both the No. 6 and No. 7 Porsche 963s. The pairing of Nick Tandy and Mathieu Jaminet in the No. 6 Porsche gave PPM its first win on the Streets of Long Beach in April, followed up with a win at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course in September. After some early season struggles, the No. 7 team of Felipe Nasr and Matt Campbell hit their stride mid-season which culminated in a wire-to-wire victory at Road America. 

Both PPM teams were in the hunt to claim the first IMSA GTP drivers' championship heading into the season finale at Petit Le Mans in October. An unfortunate early-race accident for the No. 6 car and track position challenges for the No. 7 car resulted in both Nasr and Campbell finishing fourth in the championship with Tandy and Jaminet claiming fifth in the final season  standings.

The seven-round FIA World Endurance Championship season saw PPM make significant improvements in pace and reliability. The season was highlighted by podium third-place performances by the No. 5 Porsche driven by Kevin Estre, Andre Lotterer and Laurens Vanthoor at Portimão and Fuji. The No. 6 PPM entry, driven by Dane Cameron, Michael Christensen and Fred Makowiecki, finished 2023 with season-best fourth place results at Spa-Francorchamps and Monza. 

One of the highlights from the 2023 season was PPM's three-car effort at this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans in June. Each car carried an exclusive livery that commemorated 75 years of Porsche sports car racing while also honoring 100 years of the 24-hour French endurance classic. The red and yellow striping on each car also served as a tribute to Team Penske's memorable victories with the Porsche RS Spyder program. The team’s top finish at Le Mans was produced by the No. 5 Porsche as Cameron/Christensen/Makowiecki lineup produced a ninth-place result in the twice-round-the-clock race.

Off-season testing is well underway for the PPM teams as they prepare for the 2024 IMSA season opener at the 24 Hours of Daytona on January 28 and the WEC opening race on March 2 in Qatar.
