THE PAPERCLIP: NASCAR Cup Series teams hit the track at Martinsville Speedway Saturday afternoon for practice and qualifying, setting the stage for Sunday's Round of 8 finale - the race that will decide which four drivers advance to next weekend's Championship event at Phoenix Raceway. Team Penske's pursuit of a fourth consecutive Cup Series title remains alive, with both Ryan Blaney and Joey Logano still in contention to secure a spot in the Championship 4. Blaney enters the weekend as the defending winner of the past two Martinsville cutoff races, each time clinching his berth in the title race with clutch performances on the Virginia short track. For Logano, he looks to continue his remarkable consistency at Martinsville, having posted 12 straight top-10 finishes, the fourth-longest streak in track history. As an organization, Team Penske has earned 11 total Cup Series victories at Martinsville, and both Blaney and Logano aim to add to that tally and keep the team's championship hopes rolling in Sunday's 500-lap showdown.
LOGANO'S THOUGHTS: "You're never satisfied or never happy until we win, but that's a good starting spot for our Shell/Pennzoil Ford Mustang. I can see the front from there and hopefully we'll get one of the pit stalls we're looking for, but we're all or nothing. You just kind of have to keep that attitude all day and see if we can put it up there. It seems like our short run speed was in the game. Our long run speed was less than great, so we've got some work to do there."
RACE DAY RUNDOWN: The Xfinity 500 is scheduled to go green at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday, with live television coverage on NBC and radio coverage on MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Channel 90).
