AVONDALE, Ariz. (April 10, 2008) – Sam Hornish Jr., driver of the Penske Racing No. 77 Mobil 1 Dodge Charger, qualified in the 31st starting position for the Subway Fresh Fit 500 to be held Saturday night at Phoenix International Raceway.
 
Phoenix International Raceway is an important racetrack to Hornish Jr. The one-mile oval track is the site of his first IndyCar Series win (3/18/01), his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut (11/11/07) and his first race in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (11/11/06).

In qualifying on Thursday afternoon, Hornish Jr. posted a fast lap time of 27.352 seconds at a speed of 131.617 miles per hour. The effort secured the Mobil 1 team the 31st starting position for the first night race of the 2008 season.
 
“The track was not as slick as I thought it would be,” said Hornish Jr. "I think I may have left a tenth of a second out there. We definitely have our work cut out for us but the Mobil 1 team is good at getting the right set up for the race. We will work hard during both practices tomorrow to make sure the Mobil 1 Dodge is dialed in for Saturday.”

The Subway Fresh Fit 500 will air live on FOX on Saturday, April 12, 2008 beginning at 8:00 p.m. EDT. The race will also be broadcast live on MRN beginning at 8:30 p.m. EDT.
