Sam Hornish Jr. to Start 35th at Michigan

June 13, 2008

BROOKLYN, Mich. (June 13, 2008) – Sam Hornish Jr., driver of the Penske Racing No. 77 Mobil 1 Dodge Charger, will line up to start the LifeLock 400 at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday in 35th place after qualifying was rained out on Friday afternoon.

Hornish, who hails from nearby Defiance, Ohio and considers Michigan to be his “home track,” was the 11th and final competitor to make his qualifying attempt before rain fell at the 2-mile D-shaped oval. He posted a fast lap time of 39.449 seconds at a speed of 182.514 miles per hour.

Per the NASCAR Rule Book, the field for Sunday’s race was set by 2008 owner points due to inclement weather. The No. 77 Mobil 1 team is currently 35th in the owner point standings and Hornish will line up in the 35th position.

“The car was tight and I left a little bit out there on the track,” said Hornish. “It was sprinkling pretty bad and I didn’t feel there was any need to push it since we are locked into the race. I’ve been comfortable in the car so far this weekend. We will use tomorrow’s practice session to fine tune the Mobil 1 Dodge for Sunday.”

Coverage of the LifeLock 400 will air live on the TNT television network beginning at 12:30 p.m. EDT and will be broadcast live on MRN at 1:15 p.m. EDT.
