Sam Hornish Jr. to Start 20th at New Hampshire

June 27, 2008

LOUDON, N.H. (June 27, 2008) – Sam Hornish Jr., driver of the Penske Racing No. 77 Mobil 1 Dodge Charger, will start the LENOX Industrial Tools 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Sunday in the 20th position.

Hornish will make his NASCAR debut at the 1.058-mile oval this weekend. Hornish and the Mobil 1 team attempted the fall race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway last season, narrowly missing the field by two-hundredths of a second.

Rain interrupted qualifying on Friday afternoon before Hornish made his attempt resulting in a delay of nearly two hours. Once on track, Hornish posted a fast lap time of 29.698 seconds at a speed of 128.251 miles per hour securing the Mobil 1 team the 20th starting position on Sunday.

“The track definitely changed due to the rain but the cooler temperatures really helped us out there,” said Hornish. “The track had a little less grip and I feel that I gave up a bit in turn one, but I have no complaints. I’m glad we were able to get qualifying in today, because the Mobil 1 Dodge is a top-20 car.”

Coverage of the LENOX Industrial Tools 301 will air live on the TNT television network beginning at 12:30 p.m. EDT and will be broadcast live on MRN at 1:15 p.m. EDT.
