Sam Hornish Jr. to Start 38th at Indy

July 26, 2008

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (July 26, 2008) – Sam Hornish Jr., driver of the Penske Racing No. 77 Mobil 1 Dodge Charger, will start the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard in the 38th position on Sunday afternoon.

Hornish returns to Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend for the first time since moving from the IndyCar Series to NASCAR. A three-time IndyCar Series champion and winner of the 2006 Indianapolis 500, Hornish is the IndyCar Series’ all-time leader in wins (19) and laps led (3,428).

During qualifying on Saturday morning at the famed 2.5-mile oval, Hornish posted a fast lap time of 50.911 seconds at a speed of 176.779 miles per hour. The effort secured the Mobil 1 team the 38th starting position.

“We felt like the Mobil 1 Dodge should have picked up about four tenths from yesterday,” said Hornish. “The car was just all bouncing around.  Something is not quite right with it and the car is hard to steer when it’s like that.  We’ll work on it.  We’ve got two more practice sessions today and hopefully we’ll get the Mobil 1 Dodge running a little bit better.”

Coverage of the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard will air live on the ESPN television network on Sunday, July 27 beginning at 1 p.m. EDT and will be broadcast live on the IMS Radio Network at 2 p.m. EDT.
