LONG POND, Pa. (August 1, 2008) – Sam Hornish Jr., driver of the Penske Racing No. 77 Mobil 1 Dodge Charger, qualified 26th this afternoon for Sunday’s Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway.

During qualifying on Friday at the unique 2.5-mile tri-oval, Hornish posted a fast lap time of 54.376 seconds at a speed of 165.514 miles per hour. The effort secured the Mobil 1 team the 26th starting position.

“I’m pretty happy with our qualifying effort today,” said Hornish. “The guys made some good changes to the Mobil 1 Dodge and it was really good in turns two and three. We made a big improvement over practice and we are happy about that.

“Having the opportunity to come back to some of these tracks for a second time is making a big difference. It allows me to better understand what I need out of the racecar. I’m really proud of this Mobil 1 team and the effort everyone has given today.”

Coverage of the Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway will air live on the ESPN television network on Sunday, August 3 beginning at 1 p.m. EDT and will be broadcast live on MRN at 1:15 p.m. EDT.
