Sam Hornish Jr. to Start 34th at Watkins Glen

August 8, 2008

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (August 8, 2008) – Sam Hornish Jr., driver of the Penske Racing No. 77 Mobil 1 Dodge Charger, will line up to start the Centurion Boats at The Glen on Sunday in the 34th position after qualifying was cancelled due to rain on Friday afternoon.

With rains plaguing track activity for much of the day, Sprint Cup Series qualifying was cancelled and the field set by 2008 owner points, per the NASCAR rule book.

“I’m disappointed that rain washed out qualifying,” said Hornish. “I feel that we could have started better than 34th if we had been able to qualify today. Track position is always important at road course races, but we’ll work hard as a team to advance through the field.

“With our recent road course test session, and the opportunity to run in the Nationwide Series race on Saturday, I feel that we will get some good experience to help us on Sunday afternoon. I’ve race at Watkins Glen in the IndyCar Series, but the additional time in a stock car will definitely be a benefit.”

Coverage of the Centurion Boats at The Glen at Watkins Glen International will air live on the ESPN television network on Sunday, August 10 beginning at 1 p.m. EDT and will be broadcast live on MRN at 1:15 p.m. EDT.
