Hornish to Start 37th at Richmond

September 5, 2008

RICHMOND, Va. (September 5, 2008) – Sam Hornish Jr., driver of the Penske Racing No. 77 Mobil 1 Dodge Charger, will start the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 at Richmond International Raceway in 37th place on Sunday afternoon after qualifying was cancelled today due to inclement weather from Tropical Storm Hanna.

The Chevy Rock & Roll 400 was postponed until Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. as the effects of the storm approached the Richmond area.

With qualifying cancelled due to weather, the field was set by 2008 owner points per the NASCAR rule book. Although the No. 77 team is currently 36th in the standings, Hornish will line up in the 37th position due to the past champions provisional rule allotting Bill Elliot the 36th spot.

“I’ve always enjoyed racing at Richmond International Raceway in the IndyCar Series,” said Hornish. “We’ve come a long way in our short track program since our first Sprint Cup race here in May. We will have a deficit to overcome by starting in 37th place, but this Mobil 1 team is ready to race on Sunday.”

Coverage of the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 will air live on the ESPN television network on Sunday, September 7 beginning at 1 p.m. EDT and will be broadcast live on MRN at 1:15 p.m. EDT.
