Newman Qualifies 19th at Dover

September 19, 2008

DOVER, Del.  (Sept. 19, 2008) - Ryan Newman, driver of the Penske Racing No.12 Alltel Dodge Charger, qualified 19th for the Camping World RV 400 at Dover International Speedway on Sunday afternoon.

Newman turned a quick lap of 155.045 miles per hour (23.219 seconds) at the one-mile concrete oval. Jeff Gordon, driver of the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet, won the pole with a lap of 157.061 miles per hour (22.921 seconds).

"It's a disappointing qualifying run for me today considering how well we have qualified here in the past," said Newman, who has four poles at Dover International Speedway. "The car was a little loose in general, but it felt good and it drove good - we just didn't have the speed to win the pole."

Newman and his No. 12 Alltel team have two practices on Saturday to work on the car for Sunday afternoon's race.

In 13 previous starts at Dover, Newman has three wins, six top-five and eight top-10 finishes. Newman, who finished 14th at Dover in June, is currently 17th in the NASCAR Cup Series standings.

Live coverage of the Camping World RV 400 begins on the ABC television network on Sunday, September 21 at 1 p.m. EDT. The race can also be heard on the MRN Radio Network at 1:15 p.m.
