September 26, 2008

KANSAS CITY, Kan.  (Sept. 26, 2008) -  Ryan Newman, driver of the Penske Racing No.12 Alltel Dodge Charger, qualified 16th for the Camping World RV 400 at Kansas Speedway.

Newman turned a quick lap of 170.374 miles per hour (31.695 seconds) at the 1.5-mile oval. Juan Pablo Montoya, driver of the No. 42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge qualified on the pole with a fast lap of 172.150 miles per hour (31.368 seconds).

"We picked up a good bit from practice, but we have more work to do," Newman said after his qualifying run. "The Alltel Dodge felt pretty good in race trim, but we need to work on it some more in the two practices tomorrow. We had a really good Charlotte test, and I'm hoping that information and what we learned there will help us make the car better for the race on Sunday."

In seven previous starts at Kansas Speedway, Newman has one win, three top-five and three top-10 finishes. Newman is currently 16th in the NASCAR Cup Series standings.

Live coverage of the Camping World RV 400 begins on the ABC television network on Sunday, September 28 at 1 p.m. EDT. The race can also be heard on the MRN Radio Network at 1:15 p.m.
