Hornish to Start 24th at Kansas Speedway
September 26, 2008
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (September 26, 2008) – Sam Hornish Jr., driver of the Penske Racing No. 77 Penske Truck Rental Dodge Charger, captured the 24th starting position for the Camping World RV 400 presented by Coleman at Kansas Speedway on Sunday.
Although this will mark Hornish’s first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start at the 1.5-mile D-shaped oval, he has a total of seven IndyCar Series starts at Kansas Speedway with an impressive record of one win (2006), three top-five and five top-10 finishes.
In qualifying on Friday afternoon, Hornish posted a fast lap time of 31.862 seconds at a speed of 169.481 miles per hour securing the Penske Truck Rental team the 24th starting position for the 400.5-mile race.
“I’m happy that we got the Penske Truck Rental Dodge into the race on Sunday, but I’m not completely happy with that qualifying run,” Hornish said. “When you have to qualify on time, you really push yourself and the car. I probably pushed it a little too far and cost us a tenth or two out there today but 24th is still a respectable starting position.”
Coverage of the Camping World RV 400 presented by Coleman at Kansas Speedway will air live on the ABC television network on Sunday, September 28 beginning at 1 p.m. EDT and will be broadcast live on MRN at 1:15 p.m. EDT.
