RICHMOND, Va. (May 1, 2009) - Sam Hornish Jr., driver of the Penske Racing No. 77 Mobil 1 Dodge Charger, will line up to start the Crown Royal presents the Russ Friedman 400 at Richmond International Raceway in the 28th position on Saturday night.
Admittedly one of his favorite tracks, Hornish has seven top-10 starts with one pole position as well as two wins at Richmond in IndyCar Series competition.
The first competitor to make a qualifying run, Hornish posted a fast lap time of 21.641 seconds at a speed of 124.763 miles per hour. The effort secured the Mobil 1 team the 28th spot on the starting grid.
“It’s never fun to be the first team to qualify,” said Hornish. “The Mobil 1 Dodge was really good in practice today and I know we have a strong race car for tomorrow night’s race. I’m really proud of the guys on the team, as well as everyone back at the shop, because all of their hard work is showing each week at the track. I’m looking forward to racing under the lights tomorrow night.”
