Hornish Qualifies 34th at Michigan International Speedway

June 12, 2009

BROOKLYN, Mich. (June 12, 2009) - Sam Hornish Jr., driver of the Penske Racing No. 77 Mobil 1 Dodge Charger, secured the 34th starting position for Sunday’s LifeLock 400 at Michigan International Speedway.

Hornish hails from nearby Defiance, Ohio and considers Michigan International Speedway to be his home track. During qualifying, Hornish posted a fast lap time of 38.754 seconds at a speed of 185.787 miles per hour placing the No. 77 team in the 34th starting position.

“The Mobil 1 Dodge was pretty tight through the corners during qualifying,” said Hornish. “It really didn’t feel the same as it did during practice today. Luckily, we have two practice sessions tomorrow to get this No. 77 machine dialed in. We certainly don’t want to start from the back of the pack but Michigan allows for some good passing during the race and we should be able to work our up through the field.”

Coverage of the LifeLock 400 will air live on the TNT television network on Sunday, June 14 beginning at 1:30 p.m. p.m. EDT and will be broadcast live on MRN at 1:15 p.m. EDT.
