Rains Cancels Qualifying, Hornish to Line Up 25th in Daytona
July 3, 2009
DAYTONA BEACH , Fla. (July 3, 2009) – Sam Hornish Jr., driver of the Penske Racing No. 77 Mobil 1 Dodge Charger, will line up to start the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway in the 25th position on Saturday night after Friday’s qualifying session was cancelled due to rain.
With the cancellation of qualifying, the field was set by 2009 owner points per the NASCAR rule book. Currently 25th in the standings, the No. 77 team will line up in the 25th starting position on Saturday.
“Since we were involved in an accident in the last part of final practice, we had to go to a backup car for tomorrow night,” said Hornish. “We brought out the car we raced in Talladega and it was a good piece so we’ll see what happens. I love racing at Daytona because the track has so much heritage and to race on the Fourth of July only makes it that much more special.”
Coverage of the Coke Zero 400 will air live on the TNT television network on Saturday, July 4, 2009 beginning at 7:30 p.m. EDT and will be broadcast live on MRN at 7:15 p.m. EDT.
