Hornish to Start 36th Sunday at Watkins Glen international

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y (August 7, 2009) – Sam Hornish Jr., driver of the Penske Racing No. 77 Mobil 1 Dodge Charger, will start the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen from the 36th position on Sunday.
After closing out Friday’s practice session in the 10th position with a fast lap of 122.899-seconds, Hornish was disappointed with his qualifying effort on the 2.45-mile road course.
“We’ve been dealing with some brake issues and trying to work it out but something is still off,” said Hornish. “The brake was soft and didn’t take until the pedal was halfway down. The brake just didn’t lock where it needed to and I overshot the turn.”
Despite the 18th-row starting position, Hornish knows his Mobil 1 Dodge is fast in race trim and looks to back-up last week’s fourth-place finish at Pocono – a career high for the driver and No. 77 Mobil 1 team.
“We just can’t seem to get a top qualifying position but the car is fast in race trim so we’ll focus on the race [during practice] tomorrow and nail down the brake issues,” said Hornish.
The Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at The Glen will air live on ESPN with coverage beginning at 1:00 PM EDT. The 220-mile will also air on MRN Radio as well as Sirius Satellite Radio, channel 128.
