Hornish Qualifies 14th at Michigan International Speedway

August 14, 2009

BROOKLYN, Mich. (August 14, 2009) - Sam Hornish Jr., driver of the Penske Racing No. 77 Mobil 1 Dodge Charger, secured the 14th starting position for the Carfax 400 at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday afternoon.

The 25th competitor to take the track for qualifying, Hornish posted a fast lap time of 38.798 seconds at a speed of 185.577 miles per hour. The effort was strong enough to secure the Mobil 1 team a top-15 starting position on Sunday.

“After last weekend, we would like to finish in the top-10 on Sunday,” said Hornish. “The Mobil 1 Dodge was pretty good in practice and we have a decent starting position. The most important thing is for us to be there at the end of the race and keep moving forward.

“Our ultimate goal is to be in the top-20 in points by the end of the season. We have a lot of work ahead of us to get there but it’s not an impossible task. This Mobil 1 team has had some strong runs this season even if our finishes don’t necessarily reflect it. With a little luck and continued hard work, I think we have a good shot at being in the top-20 by season’s end.”

Coverage of the Carfax 400 will air live on the ESPN television network on Sunday, August 16 beginning at 1 p.m. EDT and will also be broadcast live on MRN Radio at 1:15 p.m. EDT.
