Stremme Earns Top-20 Starting Position at Michigan

August 14, 2009

BROOKLYN, Mich. (August 14, 2009) - David Stremme, driver of the No. 12 Penske Dodge Charger, earned his second-straight NASCAR Cup Series top-20 starting position on Friday in qualifying for Sunday's Carfax 400 at Michigan International Speedway (MIS).

After Stremme and the No. 12 Penske Dodge team recorded the 18th fastest time in the 90-minute morning practice session at the two-mile oval located in the Irish Hills of Michigan, the team focused on producing a solid result for qualifying.

Under sunny skies and warm conditions, Stremme and the Penske Dodge went out 29th in the qualifying order on Friday afternoon. The South Bend, Ind. native posted a top lap of 38.907 seconds for a speed of 185.057 miles per hour. The effort gave Stremme a starting position on the outside of row 10 for Sunday afternoon's 400-mile battle at MIS. After earning a season-best starting position of fifth last weekend on the Watkins Glen road circuit, Stremme and No. 12 team backed it up with their fifth top-20 qualifying result of 2009.

"We made good gains from where we were during practice," said Stremme after his qualifying run. "It was a good qualifying effort by the Penske Dodge team today and now we will turn our attention to Sunday's race. We still have a little bit of work to do on Saturday in practice, but we're just trying to find the right balance on the No. 12 and I think we'll be in good shape."

The Carfax 400 will be seen live on Sunday, August 16 on ESPN. Race coverage will begin at 1 p.m. ET. The event will also be heard live on MRN Radio as well as Sirius Satellite Radio, channel 128.
