Stremme to Start 11th at Martinsville Speedway

October 23, 2009

Martinsville, VA. (October, 23, 2009) – David Stremme, driver of the No. 12 Penske Dodge Charger, will start Sunday’s race at the Martinsville Speedway from the 11th spot.

Stremme and the No.12 Penske Dodge Charger team had an hour and a half practice session on Friday to get their car dialed in for the Tums Fast Relief 500 at the famed Martinsville Speedway.  Crew chief Roy McCauley spent most of the practice session in race trim trying to get the car comfortable for Sunday’s 500-lap event.  Stremme radioed in explaining the car was just a little tight in the center of both corners.  The No. 12 Penske Dodge team went to work making a couple of minor adjustments to the front end geometry hoping to help the car rotate through the flat turns.  By the end of practice, Stremme felt like he had a car capable of running up front on Sunday afternoon.

In the afternoon qualifying session, Stremme was the 31st car to roll off to make a qualifying attempt.  He wheeled his Dodge around the famous Virginia speedway running a time of 19.745 seconds with a speed of 95.903 miles-per-hour which put him on the inside of the sixth row for the start of Sunday’s short track showdown.

“I am pretty happy with that run,” commented David Stremme after his two lap qualifying effort.  “We didn’t get to make a qualifying run during practice so I wasn’t sure what we had in qualifying trim.  It is so important to qualify up front here because it is so hard to pass.  We feel really good about our race package and I am looking forward to Sunday’s race.”

The Tums Fast Relief 500 will be seen live on Sunday, October 25 on the ABC television network. Race coverage will begin at 1 p.m. ET. The event can also be heard live on MRN Radio as well as Sirius Satellite Radio, channel 128.
