Rain Cancels Qualifying in Talladega; Hornish to Start 27th

October 31, 2009

TALLADEGA , Ala. (October 31, 2009) – Sam Hornish Jr., driver of the Penske Racing No. 77 Mobil 1 Dodge Charger, will line up to start the AMP Energy 500 at Talladega Superspeedway in the 27th position on Sunday after Saturday’s qualifying session was cancelled due to rain.

With the cancellation of qualifying, the field was set by 2009 owner points per the NASCAR rule book. Currently 27th in the standings, the No. 77 team will line up in the 27th starting position on Sunday.

“It’s unfortunate that we didn’t get to qualify today,” said Hornish. “Even though we were forced to go to a backup car after being bumped in practice yesterday, I am confident that the Mobil 1 Dodge would’ve qualified well today. We were strong here earlier this year but we got caught up in an accident near the end of the race. This Mobil 1 team has some unfinished business here at Talladega and we are ready to race tomorrow.”

Coverage of the AMP Energy 500 will air live on the ABC television network on Sunday, November 1, 2009 beginning at Noon EST and will be broadcast live on MRN at 12:15 p.m.
