Busch to Start Ninth at Talladega Superspeedway
April 24, 2010
TALLADEGA, Ala. (April 24, 2010) – Kurt Busch, driver of the Penske Racing No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Charger, will lead the Penske Racing trio of Cup Series drivers to the green flag Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway with a ninth-place starting position for the Aaron’s 499 after Saturday’s qualifying session was cancelled due to impending severe weather conditions. Drivers Brad Keselowski and Sam Hornish Jr., will start the race in 25th and 29th places, respectively.
With severe weather in the forecast for the Talladega area, NASCAR and speedway officials decided to suspend all track activity for Saturday at the 2.66-mile tri-oval. With the cancellation of qualifying, the field was set by 2010 owner points per the NASCAR rule book. Currently ninth in the standings, the No. 2 team will line up in the ninth starting position on Sunday.
A big week in news for Penske Racing, it was announced earlier in the week that Busch had signed a multi-year contract with Penske Racing and would pilot the No. 22 Dodge beginning in 2011.
“I’m very committed to any program that I start, and being committed to Roger Penske is the ultimate balance,” said Busch. “I now know Roger for working with him the last five years. I definitely look to have my career end here at Penske Racing. Hopefully, that’s 10 or 15 years down the road. Being only 31 years old, there’s still so much potential, blue sky, and so much fun that we can have together. I look at the business-to-business relationship possibilities as being an important factor in signing with Penske Racing.”
Coverage of the Aaron’s 499 will air live on Sunday, April 25 on the FOX television network beginning at 1 p.m. EDT. The event will also be broadcast live on MRN Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio.
