DARLINGTON, S.C. (May 7, 2010) – Brad Keselowski, driver of the No. 12 Penske Racing Dodge Charger, led the Penske Racing trio of Cup Series drivers with a ninth-place qualifying effort for the Showtime Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway on Saturday night. Drivers Kurt Busch and Sam Hornish, Jr. qualified in 14th and 25th place, respectively.
Keselowski posted a fast-lap time of 27.498 seconds at a speed of 178.835 miles per hour during qualifying at the famed 1.366-mile oval known as the “Lady in Black.” The effort secured the ninth starting position for the No. 12 Dodge.
“That was a solid run for our Penske Dodge,” said Keselowski. “You have to qualify up front at Darlington for what is going to be a very long night. The track really challenges you mentally and physically and anything that we can do to make it easier on ourselves is a bonus. I didn’t think that it was that fast of a run. I’m still trying to learn these cars, trying to figure out what’s a good lap. It sure feels good. Our guys have worked really hard on the Cup side to give me good, fast race cars. If we stay out of trouble, I think that we should be competitive tomorrow night.”
The Showtime Southern 500 will air live on Saturday, May 8 on the FOX television network beginning at 7:30 p.m. EDT. Race coverage will also be broadcast live on MRN Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio.
