• Sam Hornish Jr., driver of the Penske Racing No. 77 Mobil 1 Dodge Charger, has performed well at venues like Charlotte Motor Speedway since transitioning to Cup Series racing in 2008. Hornish has a total of 41 starts at tracks over one mile but less than two miles in length, with an average starting position of 22.4 and an average finish of 27.1, including two top-five finishes.
• In two career starts in the Coca-Cola 600, Hornish has scored a total of two top-20 finishes with an average finish of 14.5 and best finish of 13th (2008) at the 1.5-mile oval.

Describe your thoughts on the longest race of the season…
 “As far as speedway races go, I thought our Mobil 1 Dodge in the Coca-Cola 600 last year was the best car we had all season. We were being real patient to make it to the last bit of the race to run hard and then it rained shortly after the halfway point. It was a very disappointing day for us because I thought we had a car that was capable of a top finish or maybe even a win. This race is the ultimate test of your patience as a driver. Racing for 500 miles seems like a long time, and if you add more miles than that it seems like an eternity.”

"For anyone in NASCAR there are three races that everyone really wants to win, the Daytona 500, the Brickyard 400 and the Coca-Cola 600. The longest race of the season puts everything to the test.
