Kurt Busch to Start Second in Coca-Cola 600

May 27, 2010

CONCORD, N.C. (May 27, 2010) – Kurt Busch, driver of the No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Charger, led the Penske Racing trio of Cup Series drivers with a second-place qualifying effort for the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Coming off of an impressive million-dollar victory in the All-Star Race in Charlotte last weekend, Busch was the 35th qualifier to make an attempt at the 1.5-mile oval. He posted a fast-lap time of 28.832 seconds at a speed of 187.292 miles per hour in the “Blue Deuce.”

“It was a great run for our Miller Lite Vortex Dodge,” said Busch. We were just a little tight. I drove it into Turn 1 a little too deep, but the rest of the run was great. I'm really proud of my guys and the way that this car is running. Our car is fast on the cool surface and really stable when it was hot this afternoon. All and all, a good qualifying effort for the Blue Deuce.

"In 2007, Newman and I were teammates and he ended up getting the pole for the 600. Tonight, I gave it all that I had but just came up a bit shy. Newman is just that good in qualifying.  Anytime that you're second to Newman when he has the pole, you know that you've had a great qualifying lap."

Penske Racing teammate Sam Hornish Jr. will start from the 14thposition on Sunday. Brad Keselowski qualified 37th before making contact with the wall in Turn 4 on his second lap.

The Coca-Cola 600 will air live on Sunday, May 30 on the FOX television network beginning at 5:45 p.m. EDT. Race coverage will also be broadcast live on PRN Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio.
