Hornish Scores Fifth-Place Starting Position at Chicago
July 9, 2010
JOLIET, Ill. (July 9, 2010) – Sam Hornish Jr., driver of the No. 77 Mobil 1 Dodge Charger, scored a fifth-place starting position for the LifeLock.com 400 at Chicagoland Speedway on Saturday night. Drivers Kurt Busch and Brad Keselowski qualified in 22nd and 30th place, respectively.
Hornish posted a fast-lap time of 29.572 seconds at a speed of 182.605 mph during qualifying at the 1.5-mile D-shaped oval. The effort secured the third top-five starting position of the season for the No. 77 Dodge.
“We’ve qualified really well here in the past and just need to get the race results out of it,” said Hornish. “The Mobil 1 Dodge has been great from the first lap that we put on it today. I’m looking forward to having the opportunity to race well. We’ve been qualifying well; we just need the cars to be better for the beginning of the race. We’re going to have a big transition tomorrow night with the temperature. I’m looking forward to that.
“When we switched over to the spoiler, it threw us for a little bit of a loop. The cars were a lot tighter in the race and we just had a hard time getting where we needed to be. We feel like we’re heading in the right direction. Chicago has been good to me in the past; I’ve won a few races here and celebrated a couple (IRL) championships here.”
The LifeLock.com 400 will air live on Saturday, July 10 on the TNT television network beginning at 7;30 p.m. EDT. Race coverage will also be broadcast live on MRN Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio.
