Busch Qualifies 10th at Texas Motor Speedway

April 8, 2011

FORT WORTH, Tex. (April 8, 2011) – Kurt Busch and the No. 22 Shell/Pennzoil Dodge Charger team led the Penske Racing NASCAR Cup Series qualifying effort for the Samsung Mobile 500 at Texas Motor Speedway on Friday afternoon.

Busch recorded the 10th-fastest lap during the qualifying session. He toured the 1.5-mile oval in 28.815 seconds, or 187.402 miles per hour. Penske Racing teammate Brad Keselowski posted the 27th-fastest time in the No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge.

"I thought we had an outside shot at the pole and this is a pole position I've had on my hit list for years now," Busch offered. "Eddie (Gossage, TMS General Manager) and the guys here give that special shotgun to the pole winner and I've been after it for years now. He and a group were over by the transporter between practice and qualifying and I told him again how much I wanted to win that shotgun. I was hoping we could pull it off."

"We were just a bit too tight in qualifying," said Keselowski. "I may have driven too hard into the corner, especially turns one and two, but I felt that was what I needed to do to lay down a fast lap. We'll work hard tomorrow during the race to make up the track position. I was really happy with the car in race trim."

The Samsung Mobile 500 will air live at 7:30 p.m. ET on the FOX network tomorrow night. Race coverage will also be broadcast live on the Performance Racing Network and Sirius Satellite Radio Channel 128.
