· The starting lineup for Saturday night’s Sprint Unlimited was chosen by fans and based off of the order of pole positions earned during the 2012 season. As Logano earned a pole at the June Pocono event, he started the race in the ninth position.

· In the first segment of the race, Logano ran as high as seventh and as low as 17th.  He avoided a multi-car accident just 15 laps into the event and was able to come down pit road to make changes to the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford.

· Logano finished the first 30-lap segment in the 10th position. During the pit stop between segments, crew chief Todd Gordon called for four tires, fuel and wedge adjustments on the Shell-Pennzoil machine.

· In segment two, Logano raced his way into the third position, where he would stay for most of the 25-lap run.

· At the start of the third segment, Logano used another four tires and a wedge adjustment to try and put his No. 22 Ford Fusion in a position to win the race.  Once again, Logano ran as high as third and as low as eighth.

· On the final lap, Logano found himself running in seventh place, but he made a bold move to the bottom of the track. With several cars jockeying for position, he was able to drive up to third as the checkered flags flew.

· Speed Weeks continue as qualifying for the 55th annual Daytona 500 will take place between 1-4 pm ET on Sunday, February 17. Logano and Penske Racing teammate and defending NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Brad Keselowski will both be on track in preparation for the Great American Race, which will be run on Sunday, February 24. FOX will televise both Sunday’s qualifying as well as next Sunday’s Daytona 500.

“You got that single-car freight train running up against the wall and you had to wonder when we were going to go and make it happen. It is hard to make a move with these cars and the runs aren’t big enough. The old car had a really big run and these cars don’t have a huge run. You are trying to get everyone to form up and tighten up and everyone is trying to do the same thing. I just checked up a little on the front stretch and made my move from seventh and I knew it wasn’t enough to get to the front but I knew the 20 (car) was fast and he would push me along. We made the best of it. I wish I had a little better track position toward the end of the race, maybe we could have given it a better run.”– Joey Logano on Saturday night’s final segment

 

“I thought it went pretty smooth. This Sprint Unlimited race was huge for our team to get a race under our belts. I had a new spotter up there and for me and Todd Gordon to work together a lot of big things can come out of this race. I think of it as a pre-season football game or a pre-season race where you can figure things out. We did that. I would second what Greg (Biffle) said. I feel like our cars were pretty equal and we really couldn’t make the move to do anything because I didn’t feel like our car was fast enough but there were a select few cars that could do some things. I did make a move there at the end and did have enough speed that I went from seventh or so and had a good run. I went to the bottom and was able to get third by the time we got to the checkered flag. Once I got to the bottom I knew I didn’t have enough speed to get the lead and I was just hoping they would wreck each other. Overall it was a good solid finish and a good way to start my career with the Shell Pennzoil guys and I feel like we have a good list of things we can go over to help our 500 car. I think our car has good speed in qualifying and a good shot at the pole. We have momentum on our side and we are going to ride it out.” – Joey Logano on the Sprint Unlimited
