Penske Racing Provides a “Miller Time” Moment at The White House
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (April 17, 2013) – Keeping with a long-standing tradition of honoring America’s national sporting champions, President Barack Obama recognized Penske Racing for its 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) championship at the White House on Tuesday afternoon. Those in attendance included Roger Penske, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Brad Keselowski and champion crew chief Paul Wolfe.
“President Obama could not have been more gracious in welcoming us to the White House,” said Penske. “I appreciate the respect he gives the sport of auto racing, as well as the role of sports in the fabric of American culture.”
After landing at Dulles International Airport on Tuesday morning, the Penske Racing group made their way to Capitol Hill. After a brief visit at the United States House Committee on Rules Penske, Keselowski and Wolfe, along with Penske Corporation Executive Vice President Walt Czarnecki and Penske Racing president Tim Cindric, enjoyed a chat with Speaker of the House John Boehner.
From there it was on to the White House where the group was able to spend a few private moments with President Obama before the ceremony began on the South Lawn. Penske and Wolfe were introduced first, with the President and Keselowski following them out of the South Portico. Flanking the group was the No. 2 Miller Lite Ford Fusion and the 2012 NSCS championship trophy.
During the ceremony the President congratulated the Penske Racing representatives on their first NSCS title. In addition, he thanked both Keselowski and NASCAR for their continued support of America’s military. The President also mentioned in closing, “Brad offered to let me drive the (Miller Lite Ford) around the South Lawn, but the Secret Service once again said no.”
“It’s such an honor to have your accomplishments recognized by the leader of the free world,” said Keselowski. “I know he is dealing with a lot at the moment, including the tragedy that occurred in Boston on Monday. For him to take the time to still meet with us really meant a lot to the group.”
“I think he had a great message about the solidarity that sports create. When you look at a sporting event, you see a nation as one.”
