THE RACE REVIEW
· Joey Logano and the No. 22 AAA Ford team qualified 22nd for Sunday’s race.
·
Logano struggled early with a car that was handling tight through the
center and exit of the corners. Crew Chief Todd Gordon made a number of
changes as the race wore on to try and free the car up, but the
adjustments just never seemed to help the AAA Ford.
· Even with
four tire stops as the rest of the field continued to take two tires,
Logano held his own running right around the 20th position for the first
100 laps.
· On lap 102, the No. 18 car of Kyle Busch spun in
front of Logano. Busch's car slammed the outside wall and then came down
across the track. Logano had committed to go low to miss the spinning
car but couldn't and made heavy contact with Busch. The damage to the
No. 22 was severe and Logano retired from the race in the 39th
position.
WHAT THEY ARE SAYING
ON A TOUGH DAY IN KANSAS
"I feel bad for everyone on the AAA Ford today. We just didn't have a car that could compete with the guys up front. I feel like if we had more of a chance to make adjustments, we might have been able to at least salvage maybe a 10th-place run. We just missed it this weekend. We didn't have the speed that we were looking for in the race or in qualifying. We knew this was going to be a track position and strategy race. We just weren't able to be there at the end. We will move on. We know we are a great team and we will be back at it in Richmond." - Joey Logano
