Logano Earns Sixth-Career NSCS Pole at Michigan

August 17, 2013

BROOKLYN, MI (AUGUST 17, 2013) – Joey Logano earned his sixth-career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series pole position Friday afternoon, qualifying first for Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway.  The driver of the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Fusion set a track record at the two-mile oval, turning a lap of 35.303 seconds at 203.949 mph.  His qualifying speed was the ninth-fastest qualifying lap ever turned in NASCAR history.

Logano’s Penske Racing teammate, Brad Keselowski and the No. 2 Miller Lite Ford Fusion team will start the race from the ninth position after turning a lap of 35.516 seconds (202.726 mph).

“It wasn’t a bad lap; I guess it was good enough to get the pole,” said Logano.  “I felt like it was going to take a teen or 20 to get the pole and we ran a 30, so I wasn’t very confident about it after but it held up.  I’ve had a really good Shell-Pennzoil Ford since we unloaded today. Having clean air here is huge, so we will be able to start with that and try to have the right strategy and get our car good for tomorrow and getting it to where we can pass cars and see what happens from there.”

The Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway will air live at 1:00 p.m. ET on ESPN on Sunday afternoon. Race coverage will also be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network and Sirius Satellite Radio Channel 90.
