JOLIET, IL (SEPTEMBER 13, 2013) – Joey Logano earned his seventh-career and second NASCAR Sprint Cup Series pole position of 2013 on Friday evening at Chicagoland Speedway, grabbing the top spot for the start of Sunday’s GEICO 400. Logano, who went out late in the session, turned a lap of 28.509 seconds (189.414 mph) around the 1.5-mile oval behind the wheel of his No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Fusion. Logano won the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Chicagoland earlier this year.
Brad Keselowski and the No. 2 Miller Lite Ford Fusion team will start the race right beside Logano in the second position after turning a lap of 28.534 seconds (189.248 mph).
“That was an awesome run for our Shell-Pennzoil Ford,” said Logano, whose time set a new track record. “This has been a tough week, but if there is any way to make sure the guys’ are pumped for Sunday and for this Chase its getting the pole. Our car is fast, we will get a great pit stall and we will have some clean air on Sunday to start the event. And to have Brad starting second shows how strong this whole Penske Racing organization is.”
The GEICO 400 at Chicagoland Speedway will air live at 2:00 p.m. ET on ESPN on Sunday afternoon. Race coverage will also be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network and Sirius Satellite Radio Channel 90.
