THE RACE REVIEW

· Brad Keselowski and the No. 22 Miller Lite Ford Fusion team started the AAA 400 at Dover International Speedway from the sixth position based on his lap during the Friday afternoon qualifying session.

· At the start of the event, Keselowski radioed to crew chief Paul Wolfe that his Miller Lite Ford Fusion was handling loose entering and exiting the corners of the high-banked oval. However, he was still able to maintain his sixth-place position before coming to pit road at lap 39 for his first stop of the day.

· After electing to take four tires, Keselowski was edged off pit road by several cars that only changed right-side tires. As a result, Keselowski restarted the race from the 13th position at lap 43.

· Despite driving a loose racecar, Keselowski continued to turn some of the fastest laps on the track as he was very good through the center of the corners.

· While making his way down pit road for his third pit stop of the day, Keselowski made minor contact with the car driven by Jeff Gordon. The incident caused slight damage to the right-front fender of the Miller Lite Ford. Wolfe elected not to call his driver to the pit stall for repairs as the damage was only cosmetic in nature.

· While running in the 12th position at lap 222, Keselowski radioed that there was smoke in the driver’s compartment. Wolfe, with an inkling as to what the issue was, called for Keselowski  to take his Miller Lite Ford to the garage where they discovered damage to the rear end of the car.

· Keselowski returned to the track at lap 266, many laps down to the race leaders. He continued to battle and eventually crossed the finish line in the 37th position. With the result, Keselowski fell to 15th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver point standings.

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING

BRAD KESELOWSKI

WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE CAR WHEN YOU HAD TO GO TO THE GARAGE?

“We still aren’t exactly sure what happened, but something in the rear end housing went out and it burned up. We leaked oil on the track, so we figured we would come in before we ruined everybody else’s day. We definitely weren’t going to finish the race like that. It’s just one of those deals. We had a little bit of warning but not much. The crew guys noticed a lot of oil in the wheel well after pulling the tires off under one of the pit stops. It was unfortunate because we had a pretty good Miller Lite Ford Fusion. It’s better to go ahead and get all the bad luck out of the way now since we aren’t in the Chase. Look out next year.”
