Logano Leads Penske Racing Qualifying at Charlotte

October 11, 2013

CONCORD, NC (OCTOBER 10, 2013) – Joey Logano qualified the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil/Hertz Ford Fusion in the 12th position for Saturday evening’s Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Logano ran a lap of 27.983 seconds (192.974 mph) around the 1.5-mile oval.  Logano’s Penske Racing teammate, Brad Keselowski, qualified the No. 2 Miller Lite Ford in the 23rd position with a lap of 28.162 seconds (191.748 mph).

Both Logano and Keselowski fell victim to early qualifying draws, as four of the top-five qualifiers came in the final six runs of the session.

“I had a really good three and four, but one and two was a nightmare-and-a-half,” said Logano.  “I missed the bottom trying really hard to put the thing on the pole.  Every once in a while that works for you and every now and again it doesn’t, so that’s what you get for going for it.  Had we went later in the session, we would have had a shot for the pole.  The track got a lot faster as the night went on.  The guys with a late draw definitely had an advantage.”

The Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway will air live at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC on Saturday evening. Race coverage will also be broadcast live on the Performance Racing Network and Sirius Satellite Radio Channel 90.
