Third-Place Qualifying Effort for Logano at Phoenix
November 8, 2013
AVONDALE, AZ (NOVEMBER 8, 2013) – Joey Logano qualified his No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Fusion in the third position for Sunday’s AdvoCare 500 at Phoenix International Raceway. It was a career-best qualifying effort for Logano at the one-mile track.
Logano’s lap of 25.910 seconds (138.942 mph) around the one-mile track was better than the previous track record and just 0.052 seconds off of the pole position. Logano’s previous best qualifying effort at Phoenix was sixth in 2011.
Brad Keselowski, driver of the No. 2 Miller Lite Ford Fusion, qualified in the 12th position with a lap of 26.093 seconds (137.968 mph).
“That was a pretty good lap for our Shell-Pennzoil Ford,” said Logano. “I didn’t think it was that good once it was over, but when I heard the time, I knew it would be good enough for a top-five qualifying spot. I really thought after practice we would be in the top-three and that’s where it all shook out. Our race package is pretty good too. We are a top-five car there for sure. We just need to dial it in a little bit more tomorrow during practice.”
The AdvoCare 500 at Phoenix International Raceway will air live at 3:00 p.m. ET on ESPN on Sunday afternoon. Race coverage will also be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network and Sirius Satellite Radio Channel 90.
