Keselowski Leads Team Penske in Daytona 500 Qualifying

February 16, 2014

DAYTONA BEACH, FL (FEBRUARY 16, 2014) – Brad Keselowski qualified his No. 2 Miller Lite Ford Fusion sixth in Sunday afternoon’s qualifying session for next week’s 56th running of the Daytona 500.  Keselowski turned a lap of 46.084 seconds (195.296 mph) around the 2.5-mile high-banked oval to lead the Team Penske charge.

Joey Logano turned a lap of 46.253 seconds (194.582 mph) to qualify 15th in the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford.

With the unique qualifying format for the Daytona 500, only positions one and two in the starting lineup for next Sunday’s race are locked in.  The remainder of the lineup will be determined by the finishing positions of the Duel races on Thursday night.  Logano will start eighth in the first Duel on Thursday while Keselowski will start third in the second 60-lap Duel event.

“That was a pretty good lap for the Miller Lite Ford,” said Keselowski.  “It was quite a bit better than I thought we were going be.  It’s obviously not the pole, but a strong showing and a little bit of momentum for what it’s worth.  More importantly, we were able to learn some things last night and we will surely learn some more on Thursday.  That’s what really matters – go out there and win the Duels and get an even better starting position for Sunday.  I think both Team Penske cars are really strong.”

The Duels at Daytona International Speedway will air live at 7:00 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1 on Thursday evening. Race coverage will also be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network and Sirius Satellite Radio Channel 90.
