Logano Qualifies On Front Row at Darlington Raceway

April 12, 2014

DARLINGTON, SC (April 11, 2014) – Joey Logano and the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford team earned a front row starting position for tomorrow’s Bojangles’ Southern 500. The second-place effort marks Logano’s seventh consecutive appearance in the final round of elimination qualifying. Logano is the only NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver to advance to the final round of qualifying in every race since the system was instituted earlier this year.

Logano was the 10th fastest driver in the first round, the second quickest in the second round and then second fastest in the final round of qualifying as he lapped the historic raceway in 26.865 seconds at a speed of 183.049 miles per hour. The result marks Logano’s second front row qualifying effort this season with his best result being a pole position at Las Vegas.

“I think we will be good tomorrow,” said Logano. “Qualifying today our Ford Fusion was good, just not good enough. Aric and I are up here talking about how fast this place is. It is insane. It is one of those places that takes a lot of guts to go fast here. It is crazy because you are right up against the wall and if you give up a little you are mad and if you go too hard you are in the fence. It is crazy when you go through one and two and you get to turn two and you never lift. You are just wide open and it is like, ‘Holy Cow!’ It is such a cool place to qualify. That is probably the most fun you will have all weekend. It gets tougher for the race. Overall it keeps us as the only car that has gotten through every session this year and I am proud of that still. Track position is important here and starting on the front row is a good thing.”

Brad Keselowski and the Miller Lite Ford will start from the fifth position in tomorrow’s race.

The Bojangles’ Southern 500 will be televised live tomorrow on Fox at 6:30 p.m. ET and it will also be broadcast on MRN and SiriusXM.
