Logano Will Start on Front Row at Pocono Raceway

August 1, 2014

LONG POND, PA (August 1, 2014) – Team Penske continued its impressive qualifying performance in 2014 on Friday afternoon at Pocono Raceway by placing both the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford of Joey Logano and No. 2 Alliance Truck Parts Ford of Brad Keselowski in the top-three in qualifying.

Logano was first in both the first and second sessions of knockout qualifying, setting track records in each of the first two rounds.  However, Logano fell just .008-seconds short of getting the pole in the final session and will start second on Sunday afternoon, turning a lap of 49.071 seconds around the 2.5-mile oval.

“That’s so frustrating to be that close and not get the pole,” said Logano, who will start on the front row for the sixth time this season.  “When I came off of turn three, I knew that was a pole winning lap and one of the best laps I’ve ever run here.  And to lose it by .008-seconds is even more frustrating.  To be that close sucks.  But it’s alright.  The Shell-Pennzoil Ford is really, really fast.  We were good in race trim in practice this morning.  So tomorrow, we will just dial it in and hopefully try and get out front on the first lap.  It’s frustrating, but I’m proud of my guys and Todd made some great changes to the car in between sessions.  It’s a good thing when you are frustrated over running second, that’s for sure.”

Keselowski had to make two runs in the second session to ensure he made it to the final round.  He followed that up by turning in the third fastest lap, a 49.261-second run, in the final session.  It’s the same position Keselowski qualified in at the first Pocono race earlier this year.

Keselwoski then made a quick getaway from the track and headed to Iowa Speedway, where he will practice the Discount Tire Ford Mustang in the final practice session.

The GoBowling.com 400 at Pocono Raceway will air live Sunday, August 3 at 1:00 p.m. ET on ESPN. Race coverage will also be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Channel 90.
