Keselowski Places Team Penske On Front Row at Atlanta

August 30, 2014

HAMPTON, GA (August 29, 2014) – Brad Keselowski and the No. 2 Alliance Truck Parts Ford Fusion team will start Sunday evening’s Oral-B USA 500 from the front row. The robust second-place qualifying effort marks the 10th time this season that Keselowski has started on the front row.

The driver of the No. 2 Alliance Truck Parts Ford successfully negotiated all three rounds of the Friday evening's knockout qualifying sessions within the top-four in each of the three segments. The second-place starting position, combined with his previous front-row starts and three poles this season, bring the No. 2 Team Penske Ford team to a series leading 10-front row starts on the year.

“It’s by far the best qualifying effort I’ve ever had here,” said Keselowski. “That’s a testament to the team and the work they’ve done and trying to be better. We’re having a phenomenal season, but I just wish it would have been one more spot instead of second, but that’s the way it goes and hopefully we can find that one more spot here Sunday night. The car has been fast so far as the weekend is just getting started here on Friday. I’m pumped for this opportunity and this challenge.”

Team Penske teammate Joey Logano will start Sunday night’s race from the 14th position. The uncharacteristic result marks just the second time this season that the No. 22 Team Penske Ford did not advance to the final round of qualifying.

“Our car was tight trying to get to the bottom and as soon as I’d go back to the gas it was loose, so it’s really hard to fix that, especially when you’ve got a limited amount of adjustments,” said Logano.  “Like I said before qualifying, Atlanta is a place that’s easier than most to make passes and work your way up, and I feel our Shell-Pennzoil Ford is fast in race trim. It’s a little bit of a bummer because we’ve made every round, except for the superspeedways up to this point. All good streaks must come to an end, but we’re obviously still in a decent position starting 14th and we’ll just work our way up there.”

The Oral-B USA 500 will be broadcast Sunday, August 31 at7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN, PRN and SiriusXM Radio Ch. 90.
