Logano Leads Top-10 Charge At Martinsville Speedway
October 24, 2014
CONCORD, NC (October 9, 2014) – After two-straight weeks of not advancing to the final round in knockout qualifying, Joey Logano came back with a vengeance on Friday afternoon at Martinsville Speedway and will start second in Sunday’s Goody’s Headache Relief Shot 500.
Logano’s lap of 19.011-seconds, behind the wheel of the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford, was just 0.05-seconds off of the pole winning time of Jamie McMurray. It was Logano’s seventh second-place qualifying effort in 2014 and eighth time on the front row. Logano’s lone pole came earlier this year at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
“That’s not a bad effort for our Shell-Pennzoil team,” said Logano. “The best part about it is that it gets us a really good pit stall for Sunday’s race, which is really important here at Martinsville. We are on the outside lane, which can be tough, but hopefully we can get down in line without losing too many spots and work on our race. It’s a long 500 laps here. We just need to be smart and get through the race and put ourselves in position for later. We have a good car in race trim.”
Brad Keselowski, driver of the No. 2 Alliance Truck Parts Ford, had to make two runs to advance through to the second round and ended up being fifth in the first round of qualifying. His lap of 19.081-seconds in the second round was good enough for sixth in the final rundown.
The Goody’s Headache Relief Shot 500 at Martinsville Speedway will air live Sunday afternoon, October 26 at 1:30 p.m. ET on ESPN. Race coverage will also be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Channel 90.
