THE RACE RECAP

Joey Logano and the No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Fusion started the first Duel event on Thursday night in the 10th position following Daytona 500 qualifying on Sunday afternoon.  At the start of the 60-lap event, Logano began searching for the right lane to help his Ford move forward.  Logano would run anywhere from seventh to 14th for most of the race.  Following his second pit stop on lap 29, Logano began a charge to the front, eventually getting to second with just a handful of laps to go.  However, Logano couldn’t get the push he needed to pass eventual winner Dale Earnhardt Jr.  The 24-year-old would settle for a third-place finish, which will put him fifth in the starting lineup for Sunday’s Daytona 500.

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING

“I was trying hard.  I tried to get a run from the No. 4 (Harvick) there.  I backed up to him and got a push, and I had a good run.  I tried staying out of the 88’s wake and I got almost underneath him and then the No. 24 (Gordon) pulled me back, which kept me from getting underneath him and that was the end of that.  That’s as close as we’ve been to winning a speedway race with this format and this big pack drafting, so we’re doing the right things.  We’re getting closer.  I’m getting more positive about the 500 as we keep going, so that’s good.”
