THE RACE REVIEW  

Joey Logano and the No. 22 Pennzoil Platinum Ford Fusion started on the outside of the front row for Sunday afternoon’s 400-mile event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.  At the drop of the green, Logano was able to get the jump from the outside line and lead the initial 27 laps before coming out second after the first pit stop on lap 25.  Following the stop, Logano retook the lead and held the top spot until the Pennzoil Platinum Ford became extremely loose.  After slipping out of the top spot, Logano struggled to maintain track position in dirty air, fighting a near “wrecking loose” condition for the entire afternoon.  Despite the struggles, Logano remained a threat all day.  Two separate pit road speeding penalties over the course of the event pushed Logano back to the tail end of the lead lap in 17th, but the 24-year-old was able to fight his way back into the top-10 each time.  Pit strategy allowed Logano to lead more laps late.  However, the same strategy brought the No. 22 Fusion back down pit road with less than 20 laps to go for their final stop, eventually resulting in a 10th-place finish.

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING

“That was a poorly executed race on my behalf. I didn’t do a good job inside the car, both on the track and on pit road. I did a good job of screwing up anytime I could. The speeding on pit road – that was my fault. I put us in a hole after that. I’m not sure that we were going to win the race either way because we weren’t fast enough, but I maybe cost us two or three positions with what I did. We have some work to do. I have work to do with myself first, and then we have work to do with the car too.  However, it was still a top-10 finish, so I guess it could have been worse.”
