Recap:  Team Penske's four championship-eligible drivers swept the top-four spots in qualifying for Sunday afternoon's Verizon IndyCar Series season finale, the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma, led by Josef Newgarden and the No. 2 hum by Verizon Dallara/Chevrolet team.  The ultra-important qualifying session was one of the most intense of the season, with all four drivers easily making it past the first and second rounds, qualifying them for the Firestone Fast Six. As the final five minute session went green, Helio Castroneves (No. 3 Hitachi Dallara/Chevrolet) jumped to the top of the speed charts early, but was then displaced by Newgarden, who clocked a track record 1:15.5202 second lap. Will Power (No. 12 Verizon Dallara/Chevrolet) and Simon Pagenaud (No. 1 DXC Technology Dallara/Chevrolet) each put up blistering laps well under the old track record, but fell just short of the top spot, qualifying second and third respectively. With the pole – his first of the season and first for Team Penske - Newgarden earned an extra bonus point and will go into tomorrow's event with a four-point lead on Scott Dixon, who will start sixth.
