SUPERCARS VIRTUAL REALITY COMES TO CLIPSAL 500

March 2, 2017

Adelaide March 2, 2017: Shell V-Power has launched a virtual reality (VR) pit-stop experience – the first of its kind – at the 2017 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship season opening at Clipsal 500 Adelaide.

General Manager of Shell's licensee, Dan Ridgway, said the VR technology gives race fans an insight into the thrill of getting a Supercars racer out on the track in record time.

"Shell V-Power is excited to bring this technology to Australia, and to launch it at our new fan zone during the first race of the 2017 championship," said Ridgway.

"Race fans can now experience the speed and precision of a Supercars pit stop while under pressure from the Shell V-Power Racing Team's Dick Johnson and Fabian Coulthard," he said.

The launch is further demonstration of Shell V-Power's support for Supercars and displays a determination to introduce innovation and performance to all aspects of the event.

"The rollout of the pit stop closely follows the announcement of our Shell V-Power Racing Team in partnership with the iconic DJR Team Penske race team," Ridgway said.

"We also have a service station competition running until 29 March offering Shell V-Power customers a chance to win a $25k holiday to the USA, including tickets to the Indy 500 and a once in a lifetime opportunity to tour Team Penske's impressive race facilities."

"All VR participants will receive a video link of their run, with the fastest teams earning a place on the leader board and top teams taking home fuel vouchers."

"We expect it will be a big hit and we look forward to rolling this out at other events across the 2017 season."

Australian racing legend and co-owner of the Shell V-Power Racing Team, Dick Johnson, said he thinks that fans will get a real kick out of the VR experience.

"It's one thing for fans to watch a pit stop happening on the TV or at the race track, but it's another thing entirely to actually take part in one," Johnson said.

"When you put the headset on, it's like you're standing in pit lane as a part of the Shell V-Power Racing Team pit crew. It's going to be very popular."

The Shell V-Power Racing Team will hit the track for the first event of the 2017 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship season across this weekend of March 2-5 at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide.
