Notes:

  • Ryan Blaney, who was fastest in Saturday morning’s first practice, lead the Team Penske charge by qualifying second for Sunday’s Overton’s 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Chicagoland Speedway.  Driving the No. 12 PPG Ford Fusion, Blaney was near the top of the charts in each of the three rounds of qualifying on a sweltering and humid day.  Brad Keselowski and the No. 2 Stars, Stripes and Lites Fusion had to make two runs in round two before clocking in the seventh quickest time in round three.  The No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Fusion, driven by Joey Logano, was eliminated in round two, but will start Sunday’s event in the 12th position after two other drivers’ times were disallowed in post-qualifying tech.  Paul Menard, driving the No. 21 Menards / Sylvania Ford Fusion for Wood Brothers Racing, won his second-career pole and will start first Sunday.
