Recap:
Both Acura Team Penske ARX-05 Prototypes will start solidly in the top five for Saturday’s Detroit Grand Prix after Juan Pablo Montoya placed the No. 6 DPi in the second starting position with Helio Castroneves just behind in third in the No. 7. The time trials were interrupted by a caution period at the halfway mark of the 15-minute of the session, giving the two teams three laps to set their quickest time when it resumed. Montoya just missed his second pole position of the year and he likely would have secured it with one additional lap as the No. 6 Acura was starting to come alive on his final lap. On his final lap Castroneves was making a strong run for his second-consecutive pole position before another competitor slowed his lap just before completion.
